What is PAT Testing?

PAT Testing or PAT inspection is the process to test electrical items to ensure electrical grounding (also known as earthing) continuity.  As part of the PAT Testing procedure visual inspection of electrical cables and equipment in made to make sure all electrical equipment is in Good Condition.

It is legal requirement for businesses in the UK under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989  to make sure all electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition, for more information see the Health and Safety Executive official PAT Testing information.

EAWR (Electricity at Work Regulations 1989)  places legal responsibility on employers and employees, as duty holders, to ensure that electrical equipment & systems used at work under their control are safe.

Reliable professional services

Businesses such as offices, shops, some parts of residential care homes and hotels have an obligation by law to makes sure portable equipment is regularly tested and formally inspected on a regular basis.  Some electrical items have different inspection periods between 6 months to 5 years, but in most instances 1 year (12 month) inspections on equipment is what we recommended as common practice.

PAT is an abbreviation for ‘Portable appliance testing’.  For more information see PAT Testing link here and the HSE.go.uk website link.

HSE compliance requires proper testing & inspection of a system by competent people.
